Why 2-Wire?
Thousands of Australian apartment buildings were wired with analogue intercom cable decades ago. That infrastructure is still perfectly capable of carrying a modern IP video intercom system — you just need the right equipment to bridge the gap.
Akuvox 2-Wire technology uses the building's existing single pair of wires to carry both power and data simultaneously. Each device on the bus receives its operating power and network connectivity from the same two-core cable, eliminating the need for individual power supplies or Cat6 network runs throughout the building.
The result: a full upgrade to modern IP video intercom, resident smartphone app access and cloud management — at a fraction of the cost and disruption of a full rewire.

Akuvox 2-Wire systems are fully compatible with standard IP Akuvox door phones and indoor monitors on the same installation. A new-build lobby can use a flagship IP S539 door station while the apartment corridor wiring uses the 2-wire bus to each unit. The NS-2 network switch bridges the two seamlessly, and all devices — IP and 2-wire alike — are managed together through the SmartPlus cloud platform or a SIP PBX. This hybrid approach gives you the flexibility to use the best technology for each part of the building without compromise.

How the Akuvox System Works
When a visitor presses the door station, the call routes through Akuvox's cloud infrastructure to deliver a video call to the resident's app — wherever they are in the world.

The Akuvox door phone captures a live video image and initiates a SIP/cloud video call to the configured indoor monitor and smartphone app.
Resident Receives Video Call
The call rings on the indoor monitor, the SmartPlus app (iOS/Android) and any SIP desk phone — simultaneously, anywhere in the world.
Door Unlocked Remotely
