Colour247: True Full-Colour Video, Day and Night

No more grainy black-and-white footage after dark. Colour247 cameras use a super-wide F1.0 aperture, a high-sensitivity sensor and smart supplemental lighting to capture full, vivid colour around the clock — so you can actually identify what you're looking at.

What Is Colour247?

Colour247 is LTS's full-colour, 24-hour imaging technology. Instead of switching to black-and-white infrared footage once the light drops, Colour247 cameras keep recording in full colour — in dim ambient light, and even in complete darkness using their built-in white-light illuminator.

That matters because colour is what actually identifies a person or vehicle on camera. A clothing colour, a car colour, a logo on a uniform — all of this disappears in standard IR-only night vision, but is preserved by Colour247.

Colour247 is built into a growing range of LTS Platinum turret and bullet cameras, from everyday 4MP models through to the flagship 8MP 4K model used across LTS's own demonstration sites — including Sydney's Vivid Festival of Light.

Colour247 full colour camera description

How Colour247 Achieves Full Colour, Day and Night

Three things work together to keep the image in full colour, whatever the lighting: a wide-aperture lens that lets in more light, a sensor tuned to make the most of that light, and a smart supplemental light that only switches on when it's genuinely needed.

Available Light Ambient / moonlight / streetlight F1.0 Super-Aperture Wide-open lens collects far more light than a standard F1.6–F2.0 lens High-Sensitivity Sensor 1/1.8″ or 1/1.2″ progressive-scan CMOS maximises every photon Full-Colour Image, 24/7 If light is still too low, the smart white-light illuminator activates automatically to hold full colour even at 0 Lux
1

Wide Aperture Lens

Colour247 cameras use an F1.0 lens — a much wider opening than the F1.6–F2.0 lenses on standard cameras — letting in significantly more available light before any electronic gain is applied.

2

High-Performance Sensor

A large progressive-scan CMOS sensor (1/1.8″ on the 4MP models, 1/1.2″ on the 8MP flagship) converts that light into a clean, low-noise colour image instead of switching to monochrome.

3

Smart Supplement Light

When ambient light drops to zero, a built-in white-light illuminator (rated up to 30m) switches on automatically — holding full colour rather than dropping back to black-and-white IR.

Detect, Observe, Recognise, Identify

Image quality at distance is measured using the DORI standard — how far away you can Detect something is there, Observe what it's doing, Recognise the type of object, and Identify a specific person or plate. Figures below are the published DORI range for the flagship 8MP Colour247 turret (CMIP3C82W-28MDA, 2.8mm lens).

Detect — 96m Observe — 38m Recognise — 19m Identify — 9m
Detect (96m): something is there and moving.
Observe (38m): general activity is visible.
Recognise (19m): you can tell the type of object — person, car, etc.
Identify (9m): enough detail to identify a specific person or vehicle.

DORI figures are sourced from the manufacturer datasheet for the 2.8mm 8MP model and will vary by lens and mounting height — always confirm against the current datasheet for the exact model and lens you're specifying.

See It In Action

Colour247 has been put to the test in real low-light and adverse-weather conditions, including LTS's own demonstration at Sydney's Vivid Festival of Light.

Colour247 vs Standard IR Night Vision

Standard IR Camera

Switches to black-and-white once light falls below a threshold. Clothing colour, vehicle colour and other identifying detail are lost. IR illumination can also wash out detail at close range and create reflective glare on number plates and shiny surfaces.

LTS Colour247 Camera

Holds full colour using ambient light wherever possible, and brings in a smart white-light illuminator only when needed. Colour detail — clothing, vehicles, signage — remains visible in the footage that actually matters for identification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Colour247 use infrared at all?+
No. Colour247 cameras are designed to stay in full colour rather than switch to monochrome IR. In very low or zero light, they use a built-in white-light illuminator instead of an IR illuminator, which is what allows colour to be preserved at night.
Will the white light disturb neighbours or wildlife?+
The supplement light is a smart illuminator rated up to roughly 30 metres and is designed to activate only when ambient light is genuinely too low to maintain colour. Mounting height, angle and surrounding light sources will all affect how noticeable it is, so it's worth discussing placement with your installer for sensitive sites.
What's the difference between the 4MP and 8MP models?+
The 4MP models (CMIP3C42W-AIM28/AIM, CMIP3C42WB-AIM28, CMIP9C42NW-M) cover everyday turret and bullet installs at 1/1.8" sensor size. The flagship 8MP CMIP3C82W-28MDA steps up to a larger 1/1.2" sensor, full 4K resolution, and adds deep-learning human and vehicle classification on top of standard Colour247 imaging.
Can Colour247 cameras still record at night if there's a power-only or no IR mode?+
Yes — Colour247 cameras don't rely on IR cut-in at all. They simply use the lens, sensor and (if needed) the built-in white-light illuminator to keep recording in colour, regardless of whether the site has any other lighting installed.
Do I need a special NVR to use Colour247 cameras?+
No special NVR is required — Colour247 cameras are standard ONVIF-compatible IP cameras and will record on any compatible LTS NVR or third-party NVMS. If you want to use the deep-learning human/vehicle classification on the 8MP model for smarter alerts and search, an NVR that supports that metadata will get the most out of it.
Are these cameras suitable for jet-black or discreet installs?+
Yes — the CMIP3C42WB-AIM28 is the jet-black housing variant of the standard 4MP 2.8mm Colour247 turret, offering identical imaging specs in a low-visibility finish for sites where a white camera body would stand out.

Full colour, every hour of the day. That's Colour247.
