Human & Vehicle Tracking PTZ: One Camera Watches Everything, the Other Follows the Target

Two cameras, one mount: a fixed Colour247 lens holds a full-colour overview of the whole scene, while a 25x optical zoom PTZ lens automatically pans, tilts and zooms in to follow a person or vehicle the moment it's detected — with no operator at the joystick.

What Is a Dual-Camera Auto-Tracking PTZ?

The PTZIP4C44W-X25IR packs two cameras into a single dome: a fixed 4MP Colour247 wide-angle lens that keeps watch over the entire scene, and a separate 4MP PTZ lens with 25x optical zoom (4.8–120mm) that can pan a full 360°, tilt -15° to 90°, and zoom right in on a specific person or vehicle.

The two channels are linked. When the fixed camera's video analytics flag a moving object — a person crossing a line, a vehicle entering a zone — that detection is handed to the PTZ channel, which automatically swings onto the target and tracks it, zooming in for identification-level detail while the fixed camera keeps the full overview running in the background.

It solves the classic CCTV trade-off: wide cameras see everything but lack detail at distance; PTZ cameras get great detail but only where they're pointed. This camera does both, automatically, at the same time.

How Auto-Tracking Works

The fixed and PTZ channels run as a linked pair (LTS calls this Dual-VCA — dual video content analysis). Set a rule once on the fixed camera, and the PTZ camera does the chasing.

1. Fixed Colour247 Camera Watches the full scene and runs a VCA rule — line crossing, intrusion, or region entrance/exit 2. Target Detected A person or vehicle triggers the rule — its position is passed to the PTZ channel 3. PTZ Auto-Slews 25x zoom lens pans, tilts and zooms onto the target automatically — no operator needed 4. Continuous Track PTZ follows the target while the fixed camera keeps the full scene recording

Auto-Tracking in Action

Once a target leaves the zone

The PTZ channel can return to a programmed home preset, ready for the next event. With 300 presets, 8 patrol routes (up to 32 presets each) and 4 pattern scans available, the same camera can also run scheduled patrols when nothing is actively being tracked.

Zoom Far Enough to Identify, Not Just Detect

The PTZ channel's DORI figures (Detect / Observe / Recognise / Identify), as published in the manufacturer datasheet, show just how far the 25x zoom can reach at full telephoto.

2200m
Detect
873m
Observe
440m
Recognise
220m
Identify

DORI distances are calculated per EN 62676-4:2015 at full 25x telephoto zoom, as published in the LTS datasheet. Real-world performance depends on lighting, scene contrast and mounting height.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the camera track automatically, or does someone need to drive the PTZ manually?+
It tracks automatically. Once a VCA rule (such as line crossing or intrusion detection) is set up on the fixed overview camera, the PTZ channel auto-slews onto any target that triggers it — no operator needs to be watching or driving the joystick for it to track.
What happens to the wide overview while the PTZ is zoomed in tracking something?+
Nothing is lost. The fixed Colour247 lens is a separate camera channel that keeps recording the full wide-angle scene continuously, regardless of where the PTZ lens is pointed or zoomed.
How far away can it actually identify a person or vehicle?+
Per the published DORI figures at full 25x telephoto zoom: Detect at 2200m, Observe at 873m, Recognise at 440m, and Identify (enough detail for positive identification) at 220m. Actual results depend on lighting, contrast and mounting height.
Can it still patrol on a schedule when nothing is being tracked?+
Yes. With 300 presets, 8 patrol routes (up to 32 presets per patrol) and 4 pattern scans, the PTZ channel can run scheduled patrols or scans during quiet periods, then switch to tracking the moment a rule is triggered.
Does it need a special NVR to support the dual-camera tracking feature?+
The camera presents as a standard ONVIF-compatible dual-channel IP camera, so it records on any compatible LTS NVR or NVMS without special configuration. The auto-tracking logic (Dual-VCA) runs on the camera itself.

One camera that watches everything — and follows what matters.
