AJAX SYSTEMS  ยท  FIBRA WIRED TECHNOLOGY

A fully wired alarm system that installs in hours, not days.

Fibra is Ajax's proprietary wired communication protocol โ€” up to 100 devices on a single 2km line, zero manual programming, and ten anti-sabotage countermeasures built in. Pair it with Ajax's wireless Jeweller devices on one Hybrid hub for the best of both worlds.

WHAT IS FIBRA

Wired security, without the wiring headaches.

Traditional wired alarm systems rely on EOL resistors and relay outputs โ€” every zone needs its own home run back to the panel, and every fault means a multimeter and a lot of patience. Fibra throws that model out. Every Fibra device talks to the hub over a shared two-wire digital bus, using encrypted data packets instead of simple voltage changes.

That single design change is why a 30-device Fibra system installs in around 20 hours versus roughly 40 hours for a comparable traditional wired system โ€” and why there's no programming required once it's wired in. Devices are recognised automatically the moment they're connected.

Ajax Hub Hybrid โ€” wired & wireless in one system ยท Watch on YouTube โ†—

Four ideas that make Fibra work.

No relays, no EOL resistors โ€” Fibra is a digital protocol from the ground up, purpose-built for security rather than adapted from general industrial bus standards.

STEP 01

Devices share one line

Up to 100 Fibra devices connect to a single hub line using a 4-core signal or 8-core U/UTP cable โ€” no home runs, no dedicated zone wiring.

โ†’
STEP 02

Each gets a time slot

A TDMA-style protocol gives every device a short, scheduled window to transmit, so 100 devices can report in without data collisions.

โ†’
STEP 03

Every packet is confirmed

Communication is two-way and full-duplex. The hub confirms receipt of every alarm; if it doesn't, the detector keeps transmitting until it does.

โ†’
STEP 04

Encrypted, instant

Data is protected with a proprietary NIST-certified cipher based on AES-128, and alarms reach the hub in as little as 0.15 seconds.

WIRING TOPOLOGIES

Three ways to run a Fibra line โ€” pick what fits the site.

Fibra supports three wiring topologies, so the cable layout can match the building rather than the other way around.

HUB BEAM 1 BEAM 2

Beam (Radial)

Up to 8 beams per hub ยท 2km each

A single line runs out from the hub to every device on it. The simplest, most common layout for most sites.

HUB BOTH ENDS RETURN TO HUB

Ring

Loops back to hub ยท 500m per loop

Both ends of the line return to the hub. If the cable is ever cut, both halves keep working independently โ€” the layout security-graded sites ask for.

HUB ×4 LineSplit Fibra

Tree

LineSplit Fibra รท 1 line into 4

A Superior LineSplit Fibra module divides one line into four, each extending up to 2km further โ€” built for large or multi-building sites.

ONE HUB, TWO PROTOCOLS

Mix wired Fibra and wireless Jeweller devices on the same system.

The Superior Hub Hybrid runs Fibra (wired) and Jeweller (Ajax's wireless protocol) side by side โ€” up to 8 independent Fibra lines plus full wireless support, up to 100 devices total, all managed from one app and one monitoring account. Wire the areas that need Grade 3 wired reliability; go wireless everywhere else.

HOW IT COMPARES

Where Fibra sits between traditional wired and wireless-only.

Three ways to protect a site, and three different trade-offs between install speed, resilience and flexibility.

Traditional Wired Fibra (Wired) Wireless (Jeweller)
Install time (30 devices) ~40 hours ~20 hours ~10 hours
Programming Manual, per zone None โ€” auto-detected None โ€” auto-detected
Tamper & line security Basic EOL resistor 10 anti-sabotage mechanisms + continuous line monitoring Jamming & RF interference detection
Devices per line/hub Typically 1 zone per run Up to 100 per line Up to 100 per hub
Best for Simple, low-device-count sites Grade 3 sites, harsh RF environments, large device counts Fast retrofits, heritage buildings, flexible layouts
BUILT TO RESIST TAMPERING

Ten countermeasures, on by default.

System supervision

Continuous monitoring of tamper, comms, power and sensor state, with instant alerts.

Line breakage protection

Ring topology splits into two working segments if the cable is cut.

Alarm delivery confirmation

The hub confirms receipt; the detector keeps transmitting until it does.

AES-128 encryption

A proprietary NIST-certified cipher protects every data packet on the line.

Buffered backup

MotionCam devices store alarms and photos locally and sync once connection restores.

Device authentication

The hub authenticates every device each session, preventing spoofing.

Regular polling

Communication loss is detected in as little as 36 seconds at minimum settings.

Line voltage control

Constant monitoring flags voltage sags or spikes on the line instantly.

Short-circuit protection

Faults are detected instantly, with automatic restoration โ€” no fuse to replace.

No data collision

The protocol handles simultaneous alarms from all 100 devices without data loss.

GETTING STARTED

From wiring to walkthrough in about a day.

1

Plan your topology

Choose Beam, Ring or Tree based on the site โ€” Ring for anywhere line security matters, Beam for straightforward runs, Tree for large or multi-wing buildings.

2

Run the cable

A single 4-core signal or 8-core U/UTP cable carries every device on the line โ€” no home runs back to the hub per zone.

3

Connect and power up

Devices are recognised automatically the moment they're wired in. No manual programming, no per-zone configuration.

4

Commission from the app

Group devices, set up to 9 security groups and 36 automation scenarios, and the system is ready to arm.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Ajax Fibra FAQ

Can Fibra and wireless Jeweller devices run on the same hub? +
Yes. The Superior Hub Hybrid supports both protocols simultaneously โ€” up to 8 independent Fibra lines plus full Jeweller wireless support, up to 100 devices total, managed from one app and one monitoring account.
What cable do I need? +
A 4-core signal cable or 8-core U/UTP cable. There's no need for shielded or specialist alarm cable โ€” standard structured cabling works.
What happens if the cable is cut? +
On a Ring topology, the line splits into two working segments and every device keeps operating and reporting to the hub. On a Beam topology, devices downstream of the cut will go offline and the hub will flag the fault immediately via line monitoring.
Does it need programming? +
No manual per-zone programming is required. Fibra devices are recognised automatically as soon as they're wired onto the line โ€” "no programming, everything is ready out of the box," per Ajax.
What grade of compliance does Fibra meet? +
Fibra devices are part of Ajax's Superior product line and are built to comply with Grade 3 requirements, alongside a range of other local and international standards.
How long does backup power last? +
With a 12V/7Ah backup battery, a hub running 30 wired devices can run for up to 60 hours on backup power โ€” extending to around 200 hours with Battery Power Saver mode enabled.
