The Ajax MotionCam (PhOD) Jeweller is a wireless motion detector with a built-in camera for photo verification of alarms. When it detects an intruder, it takes a series of photos and sends them to the Ajax app and your monitoring station within seconds. With Photo on Demand, users and installers can also request a photo at any time to check what is happening on site. A PIR alarm on its own can't tell you whether someone is really inside. The MotionCam PhOD attaches photos to every alarm, so monitoring centres and property owners can confirm a genuine intrusion before sending a response. The result is faster decisions, fewer wasted patrols, and better evidence when it matters.

Five ways to take photos

• Photo by alarm: captures up to 5 images when motion is detected while the system is armed.
• Photo on Demand: take a photo from the Ajax app at any time. It is disabled by default to protect privacy.
• Photo by schedule: automatic photos at set times. This needs hub firmware OS Malevich 2.19 or later.
• Photo on arming/disarming: records who was on site when the security mode changed.
• Photo by scenario: triggers a photo when an Ajax fire detector goes into alarm.

Day and night image quality

An infrared backlight provides clear photos in complete darkness. HDR processing balances bright windows and dark corners in the same frame. You can choose between 160×120, 320×240 and 640×480 resolution to trade image detail against delivery speed.

Reliable, pet-immune motion detection

The detector covers up to 12 metres with an 88.5° horizontal field of view. Pet immunity ignores animals up to 20 kg and 50 cm tall. The SmartDetect algorithm and temperature compensation help prevent false alarms. Installers can set one of three sensitivity levels remotely in the Ajax PRO app.

Secure Jeweller and Wings wireless technology

Alarms and events travel over Ajax's Jeweller radio protocol, and photos travel over a dedicated Wings channel. Both channels are encrypted and use frequency hopping to resist interception and jamming. They reach up to 1,700 metres from the hub in open space, and a ReX range extender can take coverage further. Tamper protection, device authentication and communication-loss detection guard against sabotage.

Up to 4 years on the supplied batteries

Two pre-installed CR123A batteries give up to 4 years of operation, or up to 3 years with Photo on Demand enabled. The SmartBracket mounting panel allows quick installation without opening the detector enclosure.

Installation tips

Mount the detector indoors at 2.4 m. Aim the lens across the most likely intrusion path rather than straight down it, because PIR sensors detect sideways movement best. Avoid pointing it at windows, heaters or air-conditioning vents.

What is the difference between MotionCam and MotionCam PhOD?

The standard MotionCam takes photos when an alarm is triggered. The PhOD version adds Photo on Demand, scheduled photos and photos on arming or disarming, so you can check the site visually at any time, not only during an alarm.

Which Ajax hubs support the MotionCam PhOD?

Can the MotionCam PhOD be installed outdoors?
